Missionary Doris (Blow) Jones

Missionary Doris Blow Jones, daughter of the late Eddie Frank Blow and Rosa Walden Blow, was born on Sunday, April 25th, 1926, in Southampton County, Virginia. On Sunday, January 4th, 2026, she peacefully entered eternal rest at East Pavilion Health Care Center in Franklin, Virginia, transitioning from this earthly life to be with her Heavenly Father.

At an early age, Missionary Jones accepted Christ as her Lord and personal Savior, maintaining a steadfast faith and unwavering belief in God and His healing power throughout her life. She was a devoted member of Mt. Calvary Holiness Church in Emporia, Virginia, where she served faithfully under the leadership of her brother, Bishop Eddie L. Blow, Sr. Following his passing, she united with The Church of The Holy City, where she remained a faithful and committed member for over fifty years. Answering her spiritual calling through the Usher’s Ministry, Missionary Jones served diligently as President of the Senior Usher Board. She was later ordained as a Missionary under the leadership of Bishop Nathaniel Dupree.

Missionary Jones received her education through the Southampton County Public School System. In her early years, she devoted herself to her family as a homemaker while also working alongside her husband on the farm. Later in life, she pursued public employment, discovering a passion for food services. In the 1970s, she began her professional career at the Avis B. Adams Christian Convalescent Center in Emporia, Virginia, where her dedication and leadership led to her promotion as Assistant Food Services Supervisor. On June 9th, 1975, she earned a certificate recognizing her completion of Food Service Supervision courses from Southside Virginia Community College. Missionary Jones later served the Greensville County Public Schools for twenty-seven years as a Cafeteria Manager, the majority of which was spent at E. W. Wyatt Middle School. In 2004, she was honored for twenty-five years of dedicated service to the children of Greensville County Public Schools, receiving a certificate and pin presented by the Division Superintendent. She retired in June 2007 at the age of eighty-one.

On December 30th, 1943, Missionary Jones was united in holy matrimony to Elbert H. Jones. From this union, two children were born, and two additional children were later welcomed into the family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elbert H. Jones; her son, John Elbert Jones, Sr.; her parents, Eddie F. Blow and Rosa W. Blow; and her brothers, Eddie L. Blow, Sr., and Sidney Blow. She leaves to cherish her precious memories three children, Shirley Mabrey (Lloyd), Floyd Whitehead, and Michael Whitehead, Sr.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen Blow; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Missionary Doris Jones was deeply loved and admired by many. She possessed a warm and welcoming spirit, finding joy in socializing with both friends and strangers alike. Her heart for service extended into the community through her volunteer work with the Foster Grandparent Program. Known for her kindness, generosity, and gentle demeanor, she touched countless lives. 

Missionary Jones leaves behind a powerful legacy of strength, resilience, faith, and unconditional love—a legacy that will continue to guide and inspire her family for generations to come. Though she has departed this life, her courageous spirit and unwavering love will forever remain a testament to the remarkable woman and cherished role model she was.
