Moses Lee Hawthorne was born on Saturday, July 14, 1917 in Greensville County, Virginia to Evaline Hawthorne. He matriculated through the Greensville County School System and graduated from Greensville County High School in 1934. Moses tended the family farm as a young boy and upon graduation became a full time farmer.
In 1941, Moses was drafted into the United States Army. In his four years of service, during World War II, SSGT Moses L. Hawthorne served in the Infantry in Italy and Germany. After being Honorably Discharged from the military, Moses returned to Virginia to work the family farm. He met and married his late wife, Helen Doby. This union was blessed with three sons and one daughter.
For over 50 years, Moses was a faithful member of the Little Shiloh Baptist Church; serving in many capacities, including: Superintendent of Sunday School, church sexton and President of the Senior Choir. During his later years, you could still find him singing old spirituals around the house and reading his Bible. He truly loved the Lord with all his heart.
On Saturday, November 19, 2022 at the age of 105, Moses Lee Hawthorne transitioned home to be with his Lord and Savior. He is preceded in death by his mother, Evaline Hawthorne; his loving wife, Helen Hawthorne; his sons, Paul Hawthorne and Thomas Doby; and his daughter, Alease Atkins.
His memory and legacy will be cherished and carried on by: his son, Otha Lee Hawthorne; his grandchildren; his greatgrandchildren; his great-great grandchildren; his brothers-in-law; his sister-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and Friends are encouraged to visit Mr. Hawthorne's tribute wall to share memories, extend condolences and to order floral tributes, as sentiments to the family.
