Mother Lucy 'Sis' Hicks Obituary

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

~ II Timothy 4: 7-8

Mother Lucy Webb Hicks, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, began her journey through life on Wednesday, May 21, 1930 in Northampton County, North Carolina. She was born to the parentage of the late Herman Ben Webb and Fannie Moody Webb.

‘Sis’, as she was affectionately called by her loving family and friends, accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior early in life. She later united in Christian Fellowship with New Jerusalem Baptist Church, where she attended and served faithfully, until her health began to decline. Mother Hicks was a woman of great faith. She possessed strength and tenacity. She would often say, “We didn’t come here to stay. We have to leave here one day - For it’s a debt, we all have to pay.” She would also say, “No matter the sickness you may face… If I went through it, you can too. Just don’t feel sorry for yourself. I’ve got faith!”

‘Sis’ was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Earlie Hicks. This loving union was blessed with the birth of one beautiful daughter. Mother Hicks was the matriarch of the family and was respected as such. The values and principles she instilled will leave a permanent impression in the hearts of all she touched. She loved unconditionally. Her love was not limited to just family, but it was shared throughout the community and abroad. ‘Sis’ lived a very fruitful life. She was a true warrior for Christ, whom we all should try to emulate.

Oh, they tell me of a home far beyond the skies, Oh, they tell me of a home far away, Oh, they tell me of a home where no storm clouds rise, Oh, they tell me of an uncloudy day. On Friday, April 15, 2022; Mother Lucy Webb Hicks peacefully transitioned to her eternal home.

Our family is a circle of strength and love; with every birth and every union, the circle of love grows - every trial faced together makes the circle grow stronger. Her spirit lives on and many sweet memories will forever remain in the hearts of: her daughter, Helena (Elbert) Parker of the home; four grandchildren, Audra (Lindsey) Hines, Sr. of Richmond, Virginia, Andre Hicks of Emporia, Virginia, Pastor Rev. Dr. Polly Jones (Minister Patrick Jones, Sr.) Jones of Skippers, Virginia and Dwight Hicks, Sr. (Minister Jennifer Hicks) of Richmond, Virginia; eleven great-grandchildren, Demetrius Delbridge, Linsey Hines Jr., Jordan Hines, Patrick Jones, Jr. Heather Jones, Pierre’ Jones, Patrice Jones, Leletha Hicks, Dwight Hicks Jr., Lauryn Hicks and Themon Hicks; six great, great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bertha Turner and Celia Young; two sisters-in-law, Mary Harrison and Mamie Squire; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
