Pastor Tina Dunn Obituary

A WOMAN OF FAITH, HOPE & COURAGE

It all began one brisk September day, that life was bestowed upon Pastor Tina Ann Pointer Dunn, a precious life entrusted to the capable hands and care of Louise Mills and the late Curtis Wayne Pointer in Lawton, Oklahoma. While there, she received her formal education and graduated from the Lawton High School. After high school, she matriculated on her academic journey by attending Rose State College, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Southside Community College, Emporia, Virginia.

As life progressed, Tina grew and matured into a very humble, sweet, loving and tenderhearted young lady. She was considered to have a pleasant demeanor and sweet spirit, which was displayed through her caring heart, that exemplified true love for others - especially family and friends.

Early in life, Pastor Tina accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and joined the Holy Ghost Pentecostal Church; under Apostle David O. Taylor of Lawton, Oklahoma. It was there that her love for God was strengthened and spiritual gifts nurtured, as she answered the calling of God on her to operate in ministry.

A WOMAN OF FRUITFULNESS, HUMBLENESS & CONFIDENCE

Under this ministry she became an ordained minister. She held this ordination in very high regard and would often be available to help in whatever way she could. She lended herself to be used by God in various capacities and ministries including: Youth Director and Teacher at the Church of God, under Pastor Steven Stossell and Mid America Bible College, under the tutelage of Dr. Harrell A. Harrison; Elder and a Teacher at Greater New Bethlehem Temple of Oklahoma City, Missionary Coordinator at First Lady of Glory Heights Church of God in Christ of Spencer, Oklahoma, Elder and Teacher at Second Chance Christian Center, under Apostle R. Jenkins of Emporia, Virginia, Co-Founder and Pastor of New Hope Worship Center, under Dr. IV and Bridget Hillard and her final 12 years of ministry, under Apostle Mike and Dee Dee Freeman of Brandywine, Maryland.

A WOMAN OF FAMILY, HEALING & CARE

Her life was full of ministry and exemplified a lovable, bold and faithful attitude towards life and ministry. She could often be heard recalling one of her favorite quotes, ``It’s not an easy way to drop a bomb.”

“Who can find a virtuous woman? She is worth far more than rubies.” (Proverbs 31:10) Pastor Tina’s qualities of hard work, fear of God, respect she had for her husband, foresight, encouragement, care for others, concern for the poor and love for her family, all led her to a life of enjoyment, honor and worth.

Yes, Pastor Tina was the epitome of “A Virtuous Woman”. The values and principles she instilled will leave a permanent impression in the hearts of all she touched. Pastor Tina’s love for family empowered her to leave them with these parting words: “No time to cry, Don’t shed a tear, I am with God, In spirit I am here. I kept the faith, My spirit is light, I am at peace now, I fought the good fight...”

When peace like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll, Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.” On Saturday, October 24, 2020, while in the serenity of her home, Pastor Tina recalled the refrain “It is well, it is well with my soul” and crossed the great divide, exchanging life for eternal rest. Her seeds are well-sown; her service on earth is complete, and she now experiences the victory and triumph of eternal life.

God watched you as you suffered and knew you had your share, He gently closed your eyes and too you in his care. It’s sometimes hard to understand why these things have to be. Our sad hearts seek the answer, but it’s not for us to see we can only trust in God and know that in some way, It’s all a part of His great plan, we’ll understand someday. Memories are treasures no one can steal, death is the heartache nothing can heal. Some may forget you now that you are gone, but we who remain shall remember you no matter how long - as we pass her to God’s keeping and care are: loving and devoted husband, Bishop Dennis L. Dunn of the home; to this union, eight children were brought together to form a wonderful family, Bernisha Johnson of Georgia, Shanna Pointer and Jordan Bridges both of Oklahoma, Ramiyah Dunn, Trinity Dunn, Andre McGhee, Daquan Pointer Dunn and Joshua Dunn all of Virginia; two grandchildren; mother, Louise Mills; brothers, Leroy Mills and Steven (Stacy) Williams of Oklahoma; sisters, Yvonne Spain of Texas, Janice Dixon of Georgia, Vaneitta Mills and Trina Roberts (her twin) of Oklahoma; father and mother-in-law, Junious and Carolyn Mabrey of Emporia, Virginia; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, wonderful in-laws, other relatives and friends.
