“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will
dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
—Psalm 23:6
Pearline Rook, daughter of the late Ernest and Lula Powell Rook, was born on Sunday, September 8th, 1935, in Greensville County, Virginia. She peacefully departed this earthly life on Friday, January 10th, 2025, at her home, surrounded by loved ones.
At an early age, Pearline accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a devoted member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Emporia, Virginia, where she remained until her health began to decline.
A hardworking and dedicated woman, Pearline spent much of her life working alongside her sisters at the family bakery until its closure. She later worked in the home health industry for several years before finishing her career with twenty years of service at Boar’s Head in Jarratt, Virginia. Pearline was affectionately known as “Grandma” to everyone at Board’s Head and maintained perfect attendance until her retirement.
In her free time, Pearline loved spending quality moments with her family, dancing, and cooking. She was famous for her blackpot chicken muddle and homemade biscuits, which she shared generously with her family, who fondly cherished these creations.
In addition to her parents, Pearline was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen R. Tyler; granddaughter, Felicia “Felee” Rook; three brothers, Persel Rook, Ernest Rook Jr., and Benjamin Amos Rook; two sisters, Mariah “Sis” Moody and Eloise Moody; her beloved aunt, Lucy Bell Rook; godson, David Rook; godgranddaughter, La’Nisha “Pumpkin” Givens; and god-grandson, Rashawn Givens.
Pearline leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of her granddaughter and caretaker, Veronica Rook Robinson (Milton); grandson, Corey Rook (Tuanita); son-in-law, Carol Tyler; eighteen great-grandchildren: Brandon Rook, Bryant Rook, Jason Rook, Tiffany Rook, Thomas M. Field, Tiariah Eason, Malek Eason, Tianna Cooke, Kishiyvon Walker, Tylani Bonner, Tuajhon Bonner, Natasha Robinson, Markeisha Robinson, Marquis Givens, Hubert Givens, Davon Valentine, LaKenya Powell, and Hazel Lowery (Johnnie); twenty-nine great-great-grandchildren: Kimora, Mariah, Kvion, Darion, Malaysia, Kayden, Levi, Carter, Karlie, Jason, Caden, Camren, Marmyn, Layla, Tyler, Destiny, Kenston, D’Morris, Luma, Samiah, Dior, Shyla, Johmeke, Hynif, Lanaisha, Jourdyn, A’Nyla, Daviona, and Makenzie; three brothers, Robert Hicks, John Hicks, and Waverly (Emma) Hicks; two sisters, Dorothy Hicks and Ollie Hicks; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Pearline will be greatly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
