Prince Tanksley Obituary

We little knew that morning, God was going to call your name.

In life we loved your dearly, In death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you, You did not go alone,

For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.

You left us beautiful memories, Your love is still our guide

And though we cannot see you, You are always by our side.

Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same

But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again.

On December 30, 1978 a Prince was born to Karl Tanksley, Sr. and Estelle Ashford in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Prince was known by many nicknames but ‘Nitty’ was his favorite. Prince received his childhood education in New Brunswick, New Jersey and at the age of 16 he relocated to Emporia, VA with his mother and stepfather and graduated from Greensville County Public School. He was baptized at an early age and was under the leadership of Rev. Robinson at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. Prince loved singing in the church choir.

Prince was employed with Loves Truck Stop and held various jobs including working with Dwayne Hawthorne doing what he loved, carpentry and did it with pride!

To know Prince was to love him. He had a smile that could light up any room with his entrance. He was a true Pittsburg Steelers fan often seen repping Black and Yellow. Prince looked forward to many fishing trips with Uncle Joe Sam. They would fish for hours enjoying the many laughs and conversations. Prince loved to watch movies, being the grill master at functions and making music. Many would say he had an "old soul and a heart of GOLD". He loved his family and friends, but shared a special bond with his great nephew Jah’Mier, they woke up every morning looking forward to playing, wrestling and arguing with each other. The love he and his mother shared was inseparable. He was her Babyboy.

Prince is preceded in death by: his grandparents, Charlie and Mable Hardy, Ada and Norman Howard and stepfather, Joseph Ashford.
