Deacon Robert T. Jones, Sr. of Emporia, VA entered eternal rest on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was born on December 10, 1925 to the late Mary Louise (Gales) and William Benjamin Jones.
Robert accepted Jesus Christ in 1960 as his Personal Savior and joined Royal Baptist Church. He was an active member and Trustee before becoming a Deacon until his illness.
As a young man in 1947, he married the late Helena Wright, and to this union nine children were born.
Robert served in the United States Navy and held several jobs to include Noals Bakery, City of Emporia where he became the first African American supervisor, Robert left the City of Emporia and was employed by Georgia Pacific until he retired. He was a hard worker and a provider for his family.
Also preceding him in death are two children, Tony Lorenzo and James Rondley Jones; for siblings, Lucille Hicks, Queen McKinney, Bessie Mae Jordan and Maude White.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his children, Mary Rhoades (Tom), Robert (Veronica), Barbara Ann. Diane Foster (Benji), Melvin, Bernice, and Warren (Justine); two brothers, William (Vivian) and John (Sybil); eight grandchildren, Patrick, Robert III, Melissa, Lisa, Lawanda, Kevin, Warren, Anntionette; eight great grandchildren, Patrick Jr., Heather, Pierre, Patrice, LaToya, KaShaun, Kaziyen and Kazlyn. He leaves a host of other relatives and numerous friends including Bobby Lewis.
