Roger Anthony Porch, the eldest son of Lola Moncree Harding Ferguson, and the late John Roger Porch was born on September 26, 1948 in Northampton County, North Carolina. He died peacefully at his home in Pleasant Hill, N.C. on February 1, 2021 following a brief illness.
Roger was formerly educated at Gumberry High School in Gumberry, N.C. At an early age he joined the Faithful Band Missionary Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill, N.C., where he was a faithful Trustee and member of the Usher Board until his death. He was also affiliated with the Church of The Living God in Emporia, VA.
Later in life, Roger married Barbara Ann Hardy and their union was blessed with two children, Barbara Jean Porch and Michael Anthony Porch.
Roger loved attending church and praying and praising the Lord. You would always hear him echo, “God Got It” and “Hallelujah.”
For most of his adult life, Roger was a hardworking and loyal employee of Georgia-Pacific in Emporia, VA., where he was a Press Operator. He retired from the company after 40 plus years of service.
After his retirement, Roger went on to purchase and manage several rental homes in the area and he briefly opened a restaurant in Garysburg, N.C. that he named after his two children. He affectionately called it, “Tut and Mike’s.”
Those left behind to cherish Roger’s memories are: former wife and lifelong friend Barbara Ann Hardy Porch of Garysburg, N.C.; two children, Barbara Jean Porch of Raleigh, N.C. and Michael Anthony Porch of Knightdale, N.C.; his mother, Lola M. Ferguson of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Donald N. Porch of Pleasant Hill, N.C. and Reverend Mayso M. Jefferson of Emporia, VA., and Dozine H. Hampton of Pleasant Hill, N.C.; and an adopted sister, Kellie Wilkins of Tarboro, N.C. Also left behind are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, as well as two very special friends – a special classmate/best friend/“like a sister,” Shirley Long, and a dear friend, Joanie Alexander. Roger was preceded in death by his father, John Roger Porch, and his brother, Alvin Q. Porch Sr.
