With profound sorrow and abiding love, we celebrate the life of Rumeal B. Stephens, who departed this life on May 31, 2025, at the age of 34. Though his earthly journey ended far too soon, his life was filled with purpose, laughter, and deep meaning that touched everyone around him.
Born in Richmond, Virginia, Rumeal was a joyful light from the very beginning. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of First Baptist Church, where he sang in the youth choir and began his spiritual walk. His life took him through Richmond, Pittsburgh, and Upper Marlboro, each place enriched by his vibrant spirit, big heart, and unforgettable presence.
Rumeal graduated from Lloyd C. Bird High School, where he excelled both academically and socially. He also played football at Largo High School, Alleghany Middle School, and Hopkins Elementary, developing not just skill, but the teamwork and drive that would shape his future. He went on to attend Norfolk State University, where he studied biology while also nurturing his creativity—particularly through his passion for fashion design.
A true visionary and entrepreneur, Rumeal launched his own fashion and tech brand, merging innovation and personal expression in ways that reflected his unique voice. Professionally, he also served in various roles with ACE Hardware, UPS, Giant Food (as a Pharmacy Technician), Food Lion Distribution, and LCHS Consulting in Bowie, Maryland. His work ethic was unmatched, but what made him truly special was his deep love for people—especially youth and seniors, to whom he offered his time, guidance, and compassion.
Rumeal’s signature style, authenticity, and radiant smile left lasting impressions wherever he went. A passionate sports fan, he proudly cheered for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Los Angeles Clippers, never missing a chance to support his favorite teams.
He Was Preceded in Death By: His father, Gamil Alli; grandparents, Richard and Christine Stephens, and Hassan and Elaine Ali; aunt, Gloria Stephens; uncles, Dennis, Willie, and Melvin Stephens; father-in-law, James Brown Jr.; and dear friends, Donyell Patillo and Scott Palimore Jr.
He Leaves to Cherish His Memory: His loving mother, First Lady Laverne Dorest, and devoted stepfather, Gilbert Dorest of Bowie, MD; his beloved fiancée, Dorothea Brown; and cherished stepchildren: Suvonia, Asia, Attoria (Shaheed), Kylic, and Derrick Jr.
He is also survived by his stepsister, Shamil Alli (Las Vegas); uncles, Mohamad, Hassan Jr., and Micah Alli; his devoted cousin, Raul Rodriguez; and a host of extended family members and dear friends, including Augustus Trice, Wayne Patillo (Weezy), Tyrease White (Scooter), Darshika Brown, Nijah Crumpler (Best Friend), and Vell.
Rumeal lived with intention, led with kindness, and loved without reservation. His memory will forever remain in our hearts, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him. “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”
