Today, we pause to honor the memory of Terrie Jones Wilkins, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, niece, aunt, cousin, and friend. Terrie’s love for her family was boundless, and she enriched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Born on Friday, September 11, 1964, to Willie and Susie High Jones, Terrie was the eldest of a beautiful set of twins. She was the sixth child in their strong family. Terrie graduated from Northwest Halifax High School in 1982 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, proudly declaring “AGGIE PRIDE.”
From a young age, Terrie embraced her faith, first at First Baptist Church of Hodgestown, and later at Shearin Chapel Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
Affectionately known as “Peaches,” Terrie married Sherman Wilkins, and together they were blessed with two wonderful daughters and eight amazing grandchildren. Terrie found joy in her work, especially at Jefferson Elementary School in Jarratt, Virginia.
On Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the ECU Health Inpatient Hospice in Greenville, North Carolina, Terrie peacefully departed this life. She is now reunited with her parents and siblings, Donati R. High, Sr., Debra J. Bennett, and Dexter Jones.
Terrie’s legacy lives on through her husband, Sherman Wilkins of the home; her daughters, Brittney Wilkins of Littleton, North Carolina, and Jasmine Wilkins of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; and her cherished grandchildren, Madison and Jace Nichols, Cali, Cazlyn, Cassi, Cannen, Miley Wilkins, and Tru Ivey. She is also survived by her siblings: Mertikae (Sherman) Hill of Randallstown, Maryland; Willie Sue (Charles) Green of Swan Quarter, North Carolina; Terrance (LaKasia) Jones of Lake City, Florida; Nolita (Alvin) Lundy of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; Lolita (Frank) McNair of Gaston, North Carolina; and Marcus (Erika) Jones of Enfield, North Carolina. Additional survivors include her brother-in-law, Curtis (Linda) Wilkins of Jarratt, Virginia; sisters-in-law, Vanessa High of Emporia, Virginia, Gloria Wilkins of Jarratt, Virginia, Rosemary (Roger) Carson of Emporia, Virginia, Vivian Jones of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and Jennifer Jones of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; as well as her aunts, Mary Moore, Annie Taylor, Barbara Soloman, Agnes Moody, and Wilhemina Jones.
Terrie’s life was enriched by her special friends Beatrice Evans, Lillian Jones, Helena Henson, Mary Mills, Zell Bullock, Angelette Epps, and Virgie Epps, and special cousins Vonda Darden and Michelle Murry. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find solace in knowing that Terrie is at peace in heaven, where God shall wipe all tears away.
Relatives and Friends are encouraged to visit Mrs. Wilkins' tribute wall to share memories, extend condolences and to order floral tributes, as sentiments to the family.
