TOMMIE WASHINGTON, SR. was born on December 26, 1928 to the late Johnny and Olivia Washington in Greensville County, Virginia. He entered into eternal rest at 10:15 AM, on Sunday, May 1, 2014 at Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center in Emporia, Virginia. Tommie was raised in Greensville County, Virginia and in 1946 he married Rebecca Hicks. Tommie was an employee with Belding Heminway Company Inc. for 25 years and upon his retirement he was employed with 19th Hole Vending Company. Until illness prevented him, Tommie's favorite pastimes were gardening, fishing, and driving. Tommie leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Rebecca Washington; four daughters, Lillian Hudson (William), Sally Vaughan (James), Angela Porter (Eugene), and Kaya Weaver all of Emporia, Virginia; one son, Sandy Washington (Janice) of Conway, North Carolina; two sisters, Carrie Givens of Emporia, Virginia and Thelma Atkins of New York; one brother, Abraham Washington of New York; nine grandchildren, Montrel Davis, Paula Goodrich, Lucy Hudson, Torri Morgan, Hosea Turner, Michael Turner, Tonia Washington, Yulanda Taylor, and Titesha Vaughan; thirteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Elmo Hicks; two daughters-in-law, Janet Washington and Gladys Washington Ross; and one son-in-law, William Hudson; one special sister-in-law, Rosa Franklin; three sisters-in-law, Otelia Atkins, Faye Washington and Martha Atkins. One special niece, Alethea Robinson; one special granddaughter, Torri Morgan, who was with him from day one until his passing; one special friend, James Robinson; six special nephews, Roosevelt Washington, Howard Washington, Haywood Washington, Robert Moody, George Franklin, and Wilbert Moore, Jr.; two sons preceded him in death, Tommie Washington, Jr. and Danny Washington; one grandson preceded him in death, Felix Turner, and one great-grandson, Michael Turner. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
