Walter Bailey, Sr. Obituary

With humbled submission to the will of God, we pause to honor the life of Walter Julius Bailey, Sr. who was born on Friday, January 7, 1949, in  Jarratt, Virginia, to the parentage of the late Lee and Georgia Pair Bailey.

While growing up in rural Southside Virginia, Walter was educated in the Virginia Public Schools.  Being reared in a Christian home, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ in his life, while nurturing his spiritual gifts at Salem Baptist Church, Emporia, Virginia. Shortly thereafter, Walter united in Holy Matrimony with the love of his life, Ella Robinson Bailey, and God blessed this union with two children, Walter, Jr. and Rhonda. He loved his family and friends, but he also held working near and dear to his heart. Walter was no stranger to hard work.  For more than 36 years, he was gainfully employed with Georgia Pacific of Emporia, where he held the position of Supervisor. Often times, if Walter was not working, you could find Walter out on the water fishing or on the land hunting. Most notably, he was well-known for cooking his famous chicken muddle.  When he was not in a natural environment, you could find he kicked back, watching his favorite football team - The Pittsburgh Steelers!
Walter loved people and he never met a stranger. He was a people’s person and loved a good laugh.  Not only did he love people, but he would do anything he could to help those in need. His kindness, willingness to help others, and loyal friendship will be greatly missed and forever remembered by those whose lives he touched in so many special ways.
On Saturday, August 3, 2019; while at Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center, Emporia, Virginia; God released Walter Julius Bailey, Sr., from this world of sin, sorrow, pain and suffering,  to a place of peace and sweet eternal rest. In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by one brother, William Bailey. Though the clouds may hang over, there will be a brighter day, in that land that they call heaven, God shall wipe all tears away.

We, who are bound by treasured ties of affection and love, as we pass him to God’s keeping are: his beloved wife of 50 years, Ella Louise Robinson Bailey of the home; son, Walter J. Bailey Jr. (Evette) of Freeman, Virginia, one daughter, Rhonda Hines of Richmond, Virginia, seven grandchildren, Jacolby Wells, Zaevon Bailey, Alex Logan, Zionne Henry, Corero Hines, Simone Hines and Antoneya Hines; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Elder George Bailey (Corrine), Deacon Jeff Bailey and Bishop Alex Bailey (Joe Ann) all of Emporia, Virginia and Donnell Pair (Patricia) of Jersey City, New Jersey;  three aunts, Alice Brown of Emporia, Virginia, Sara Turner of New Rochelle, New York and Ruth Miles of Skippers, Virginia; two brothers-in-law, Nathaniel Powell and Glenn Powell both of Emporia, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Emma Burke of Leesburg, Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
