Wayne Stanley Wells, a son of the late Ben and Helen Wells, was born on Friday, April 4, 1952, in Franklin, Virginia.
Wayne was educated in the Greensville County Public School System, before matriculating at Virginia State College (University). Early in life, he accepted Christ and united in Christian Fellowship with Diamond Grove Baptist Church, Skippers, Virginia. This is where his spiritual gifts were nurtured and his love for God deepened. He held the esteemed honor of serving as a Trustee and was a faithful servant until his death.
For more than 30 years, Wayne was gainfully employed at Phillip Morris, until his retirement in 2004. As a fellow VSU Trojan, he was often seen at various sporting events. Wayne was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. In addition, he was a successful photographer and an excellent cook. He was affectionately known for his sweet tea and barbeque pig feet.
Wayne was a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, god-father, in-law, cousin and friend. He loved his family and cherished, dearly, the times spent together.
“Upon life’s journey, we are given opportunities to plant seeds of goodness, seeds of kindness, and seeds of blessings that bestow our hearts, our work, and our being. For those that sow the fields with loving generosity, so shall they reap the abundant harvest of eternal life.” Early Friday morning, June 9, 2023, God called Wayne Stanley Wells from earthy labors to his heavenly rewards. Preceding him in death are: his parents; son, Andrek Levone Singleton and brothers, Ruben Wells and Kelvin Wells.
Memories of his LOVE, DIGNITY and FAITH will long be remembered by: his devoted and loving wife of 46 years, Doris Singleton Wells; devoted son, Lamar Benjamin Wells; three devoted grandchildren, Alexis Drae Singleton, Taylor Ormoni Singleton and Logan Alexander Wells; brother, Michael Wells (Angelus); brother-at-heart, Byron McKie; sister-in-law, Sonia Jacobs (Jerome); brother-in-law David Singleton (Shirley); god-son, Lamont Avent; daughter-at-heart, Vanessa Hamlet; nieces, Marcla Wells and Tashima Gary; nephew, Eddie Jerome ‘EJ’ Jacobs; devoted cousins, Sylvia and Leroy Avent; a host of relatives and friends.
