William Samuel Banks, the eldest of five children born to the late Samuel and Elizabeth Banks, began his journey through life on Sunday, May 14, 1939. ‘Gene’, as he was affectionately called by his loving family and friends, peacefully transitioned from earthly life unto eternal life on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
At an early age, William joined Mount Calvary Holiness Church, where he faithfully served and continued to be devoted throughout the years. As life progressed, he relocated to Baltimore, Maryland; continued to serve the Lord and was a devoted member of Gillis Memorial Christian Community Church. William was a serious person; he loved the church and his family. He would often return to Emporia, Virginia to attend church homecomings and family gatherings.
William was educated in the Greensville County Public Schools. He began his career after moving to Baltimore, Maryland, where he retired from the Baltimore School System with over 20 years of dedicated service. In addition, William worked at John Hopkins Hospital for 20 years. He enjoyed working within the school system and at John Hopkins and enjoyed his retirement. He was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge located in Maryland.
William was happily married to Eliza. Together, they enjoyed traveling, entertaining and spending quality time with family. William was always ready to travel and vacation after his retirement. He had a kind heart, a giving spirit and never met a stranger. William was a man of few words, but his love and compassion for others was immeasurable.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by: one son, Frankie D. Banks and his siblings, Wilbert Banks (Arlene), Walter Robinson (Doris) and Joyce Crawley (Edward).
Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of: one granddaughter, Tiffney Banks; two grandsons Frankie D. Banks and Dondre Banks (Briya); three great-grandchildren, Noah Banks, Laila Ayres and Indira Banksone; one sister, Bernice Flowers (Carl); one brother, Joe Banks; one uncle, Thomas Jones; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Morgan; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom he dearly loved.
