Willie Lee Hicks, Jr., known to many as “Manman,” was born on April 24, 1963, in Emporia, Va., to the late Willie Lee Hicks, Sr. and Betty Hicks Tilliar. He was the third of nine children.
At an early age, Willie joined Jerusalem Baptist Church. After graduating high school, he later became a dedicated employee at the Emporia Foundry for over thirty years. He then went on to be employed at Georgia Pacific of Emporia, where he worked until his health declined. Willie loved spending time with his family, his dog Kane, taking care of his yard, working on his vehicles, and fishing; he was also a huge Dallas Cowboys fan!
On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Willie peacefully departed his life while at home. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Lee Hicks, Sr., and his nephew, Devonte Squire.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories three children: Willie Lee Walker (Ja’net) of Richmond, Va., Whitney Gillis of Emporia, Va., and Tierra Blalock (Joshua); three grandchildren: Norah Walker, Stormy Blalock, and Sterling Blalock.
He is also survived by his mother, Betty Hicks Tilliar; eight siblings: Mary Hill (Kenny) of Emporia, Va., Aletha Robinson (Terry) of Emporia, Va., Betty Taylor (John) of Lawrenceville, Va., Randy Hicks (Stacey) of Cincinnati, OH, Raynette Jones (Earl) of Emporia, Va., Andrew Hicks (Catherine) of Emporia, Va., Regina Peebles (Anthony) of Lawrenceville, Va., and the youngest, Lakesha Hicks of Emporia, Va.; four aunts: Rosa Franklin (George) of Skippers, Va., Penny Young, Danny Perry, and Doris Milton, all of Louisburg, NC; one uncle, Andrew Stukes of Louisburg, NC; a special companion, Sherita Morrow of Emporia, Va.; two special friends, Edward “Junnie” Powell and Doug Buckner, both of Emporia, Va.; his other special best friend, his dog, Kane; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Willie’s legacy of faith, hard work, and unwavering love for his family and loved ones will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
