Memories are treasures no one can steal. Death is the heartache nothing can heal.
Some may forget you now that you are gone, But we shall remember you no matter how long.
Winfred Bernard Turner, affectionately known as “Win” by his devoted family and friends, was born on Saturday, August 26th, 1961, in Southampton County, Virginia, to Mattie Holmes Turner and the late Elisha P. Turner. He was the eighth of nine children born to their union, and from the start, his vibrant personality left a lasting mark on those around him.
Win accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Rising Star Baptist Church in Branchville, Virginia, where he began his spiritual journey and developed the faith that carried him through life.
He received his education through the Southampton County Public School System and graduated from Southampton High School in the summer of 1979. Known for his charisma and charm, Win embarked on a successful career as a vendor and salesperson, spending most of his professional life with the 7-Up Bottling Company in Virginia Beach, Virginia. It was there that he met and married his former wife, Darleen S. Dunn, with whom he shared a chapter of love and companionship.
A proud and passionate San Francisco 49ers fan, Win approached life with humor, confidence, and an independent spirit. He was known for doing things his own way—steadfast in his beliefs, and always willing to lend a hand when he could. Even as he faced significant health challenges, his generous and giving heart remained unchanged. He brought joy and light to many, never letting his circumstances define his spirit.
Win was preceded in death by his father, Elisha P. Turner; his brother, Freddie E. Turner; his niece, Farrah Fitchett; his nephew, Erin Fitchett; and his life partner, Patricia Taylor. He leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and enduring love in the hearts of those who survive him: his beloved mother, Mattie Holmes Turner of Branchville, Virginia; his three caring brothers, Elvin Turner (Joyceline) of Pleasant Hill, North Carolina, Patrick Turner (Shirley) of Seaboard, North Carolina, and Ronald Turner (Alice) of Seaboard, North Carolina; and his four devoted sisters, Mariah Fitchett, Mattie McNeil (Carl), Beverly Hobbs (Edward), and Rebecca Minor (George), all of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Also mourning his loss and celebrating his life are his uncle, Thomas Jones; his aunt, Annette Holmes; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were blessed to know him.
Win’s legacy is one of laughter, kindness, and a steadfast heart. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held dear by those whose lives he touched.
